The IRS is extending the 2011 tax-filing deadline for taxpayers until Tuesday, April 17. Therefore, taxpayers will have two extra days to file their 2011 tax returns and pay any tax due. The deadline was extended because April 15 falls on a Sunday and Emancipation Day, a holiday observed in the District of Columbia, falls on Monday, April 16.

Taxpayers requesting an extension will have until October 15 to file their 2011 tax returns.
