Organizations Lose Tax-Exempt Status
Posted on June 27, 2011
Approximately 275,000 organizations lost their tax-exempt status because
they did not file required reports for three consecutive years.
Organizations can apply for reinstatement of their tax-exempt status by
completing an application and paying fees. If organizations are on the
list and do not receive reinstatement then they are no longer eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions, and any income they receive may be taxable. However, the IRS believes a vast majority of these organizations are no longer in existence.
For a list of organizations that have been revoked, go to the www.irs.gov and search “Automatic Revocation of Exemption List”.
