Paycor’s 2018 Disrupt Event

Last week, Paycor hosted its highly innovative and engaging bi-annual Disrupt event. Since we believe that developing software is a science and an art, engineers and product teams are given time, out of production, to indulge creativity and explore radical, fresh ideas. During Disrupt, Product and IT Associates stop producing and collaborate with each other, pushing the boundaries of their craft.
Each Disrupt team creates a working proof of a concept to solve a challenge and pitches the concepts to a panel of judges from all areas of the business. The winning concepts secure an award, serious market consideration and major bragging rights. The process is fun and reminds everyone of Paycor’s innovative culture, resulting in big returns for our business and our people.
24 teams competed in the 48-hour Disrupt event. Weekly work volume was reduced by 50% and the building was kept open throughout the night for teams to collaborate. At the end of 2 days, teams had to provide working code and 3 summary slides showing how their innovation improves software and/or a work process. On the last day of the competition, each team had 10 minutes to pitch their concepts to a panel of judges. Here’s what the judges considered:
- Quality of pitch
- Impact to customer experience/ associate experience
- Improving Paycor’s strength against competition
- Has it created new opportunities for Paycor?
First off, we’d like to say congratulations to every team that dedicated 48 hours to innovation and creativity. We could not be more excited about the new ideas and feedback we were given throughout the Disrupt event.

All ideas will be reviewed by our internal team for further consideration. They will continue to be fleshed out, researched and built upon. Leaders are already talking about several of the projects that didn’t get to the top – discussing ways to address them and how they can move through the innovation funnel.
