W-2 Health Care Reporting Update
Posted on November 7, 2013
If you filed 250 or more W-2s in 2012, you will be required to report the total cost of employer sponsored health coverage (employee cost + employer cost) on your 2013 W-2s. This is the same requirement as last year.
Under the interim guidance issued by the IRS, an employer is not subject to the health care reporting requirements for any calendar year if the employer filed fewer than 250 W-2s for the preceding calendar year. If you filed less than 250 W-2s in 2012, you are not required to report employer sponsored health care coverage on your W-2s for calendar year 2013. This interim guidance is applicable until further guidance is issued.
You can determine your 2012 W-2 count by reviewing box C on your 2012 W3. Your W3 will be included in your 2013 4th quarter tax packet.
