Best Practices for Virtual Interviews

While virtual and in-person interviews are similar (you should dress professionally for both, for example), there are differences. Here are a few things to consider:

  • Familiarize yourself with Zoom.
  • Set up a distraction free zone. 
  • Be present. Treat the conversation as if you were in the same room as the interviewer.
  • Be a few minutes early, but no need to be 10 minutes early, as if it were in-person. 
  • Double check the time zone since we have offices and people conducting interviews nationwide.
  • Reminder: turn off notifications!
  • Position the video window box close to the top of your screen, near the camera. This helps you maintain eye contact.
