What is HRIS?

Human Resource Information System (HRIS) is a form of HR software used in human resources information technology to streamline the management of human resources, business processes and data. An HRIS is also commonly referred to as an HCM platform or HR software.

An HRIS helps businesses organize and manage people-related data such as employee demographic information, employee job information, benefits selections and time off balances and requests. It serves as a single source of accurate data that users may utilize to create reports, track trends and make business decisions.

A Typical HRIS Is Made Up Of These Key Features:

  1. Applicant Tracking System
  2. Onboarding
  3. Time & Attendance
  4. HR Reporting & Data Analytics
  5. Payroll
  6. HR & Benefits Administration
  7. Learning Management

Entering human resources information into one, unified HR data system versus multiple systems reduces the likelihood of costly errors. An efficient HRIS also helps HR eliminate the amount of tedious, administrative tasks, freeing up HR to focus on other strategic functions.
